PROJECT SUMMARY

The game takes players through various steps of decorating a virtual aquarium. Virtual water is displayed on top of a physical tank.

MY PROCESS
[1] Research

[ Storyline & Platform ] 

I created a storyline that has a series of small targets so the users can focus on one target at a time. This leveraged the nature of Hololens, which has a small field of view, similar to the focus of our eyes;

[ Interactions ] 

I took inspiration from "popping soap bubbles" to make the interactions intuitive. My team utilized 2 gestures: "gaze" and "air tap" from Hololens.

I made the chart on the right to indicate the game's level of interest increasing when animated objects appear.

[3] User testing

We playtested our game with 5 users who have never tried AR and VR.

I learned the importance of designing clear audio and visual feedback to successfully communicate what to do to the users. I built a physical prop to help stabilize the users' orientation, and came up with techniques to indirectly control the users into doing the intended "pop the balloon" interactions.
